Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 6, 2026 • Offline-First • Zero Telemetry
InkReader is an offline-first Android e-reader application developed by Fiksr. We believe your reading habits, library, annotations, and queries are strictly personal. InkReader does not track you, does not collect analytics or device identifiers, and does not operate cloud servers that store your data.
1. Information We Do NOT Collect
- No Personal Identifiers: We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or advertising IDs.
- No Telemetry or Tracking: There are no third-party tracking or analytics SDKs embedded in the app.
- No Reading Analytics: What books you read, how frequently you read, your reading speed, and bookmarks remain entirely on your local device.
2. Data Handled Locally on Your Device
- E-books & Documents: Imported EPUB files are kept in private local app storage.
- Reading Progress & Stats: Bookmarks, reading heatmaps, words-per-minute calculations, and annotations are saved in your local database.
- Custom Files: User-imported fonts (
.ttf/.otf) and ambient sound tracks remain on your local storage.
3. Network Connections & Third-Party AI Providers
Network activity only occurs when you intentionally trigger features that interact with external services:
A. AI Reading Companion
- Direct HTTPS Connection: When you use AI features (e.g. "Catch Me Up" summaries or character explanations), requests are sent directly from your device to your chosen provider (Google Gemini, Groq, OpenAI, or DeepSeek/OpenRouter). There is no intermediary proxy.
- API Key Storage: Your API keys are saved on-device in private
SharedPreferences and never shared with third parties.
- Context Sent: Only the required excerpt (book title, author, chapter, and text chunk) is sent to complete the requested prompt.
B. Offline Neural TTS Voice Models
- Voice models (Supertonic, Kokoro, Piper) are downloaded on-demand from public repositories (such as GitHub / Hugging Face releases).
- Once downloaded, all speech synthesis runs 100% offline on your device CPU. No audio or text is sent to cloud servers during reading.
C. OPDS Catalogs & Cloud Sync
- If you connect to OPDS catalogs (e.g. Standard Ebooks, Calibre) or sync services (BookOrbit, KoSync), network communication occurs directly between your device and that specific server address.
4. Android Permissions
| Permission | Purpose |
INTERNET | User-triggered AI queries, OPDS browsing, sync, and one-time TTS voice downloads. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Checks internet connectivity prior to downloads or sync requests. |
5. Contact & Open Source
